The policy will remain the main risk to the tourist industry in 2017

Last week, the big resonance was caused by the publication of the impending introduction of fees for crossing the border by road and rail. On 14 October the head of Ministry of transport Maxim Sokolov explained that it is only on the freight car and railway transport. However, comparing the facts, the experts saw what was happening the whole series of alarms for tourism.

Холодная война заморозит туризм

According to Maxim Sokolov, the introduction of such measures is not a question of the nearest future. He assured that the tax will not apply to people crossing the border in private cars. However, the mere appearance of such information was widely seen as a test of society’s reaction to the possible introduction of measures that restrict exit from the country.

Especially when you consider that almost simultaneously began to spread other messages. The officials allegedly received a recommendation to return to Russia of their children living or studying abroad. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov has denied. However, based on the principle of “no smoke without fire”, citizens got another hint that the stay outside the country the government thinks is unsafe. And that means – holidays abroad, it is better to prefer domestic tourism.

The goal is not only to develop their own resorts. Over the past year the tourism industry in our country has become a tool of big politics. The government realized that the switching of tourism can be used as a powerful argument, and actively uses it. The examples are not far – almost a year the tour operators are not able to send tourists to Egypt, many months in fact, were closed, and Turkey.

However, the tourist traffic is a two – edged sword. Russia can use the same tool to constrain the entry of our citizens in certain countries. The reason may be, for example, the continued participation of Russia in the Syrian conflict, causing increasing irritation from the West. Vladimir Putin even had to cancel a visit to Paris. Planned opening of the cultural center of Russia, but the time was wrong – judging by the statements of French President Francois Hollande, he was going to speak with Putin is not about culture, but about Syria.

All this, too, is not conducive to tourism exchange, as evidence of a serious diplomatic crisis, which has called new cold war. It seems that after the political upheaval in the upcoming 2017, the travel industry must prepare for new.
